Author Guidelines

General Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts may be written in English or Indonesian and must be free from plagiarism and any form of academic misconduct.

PIETAS: Jurnal Studi Agama dan Lintas Budaya publishes original research articles, systematic literature reviews, conceptual papers, case studies, and critical book reviews in the fields of religious studies and cross-cultural studies.

Before submitting a manuscript, authors must register through the journal's online submission system. All submissions must be prepared using the official journal template and submitted through the Open Journal Systems (OJS). Manuscripts that comply with the journal's scope, formatting requirements, and publication ethics will undergo a double-blind peer-review process.

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

Manuscript Structure

Title

The title should be concise, informative, and accurately reflect the content of the manuscript. It should not exceed 20 words and should avoid uncommon abbreviations or unnecessary technical expressions.

Author Information

Provide the full names of all authors without academic degrees or professional titles, followed by their institutional affiliations, complete institutional addresses, ORCID iD (if available), and email addresses. The corresponding author should be clearly identified.

Abstract

The abstract should be written as one paragraph with a maximum length of 250 words.

For research articles, the abstract should briefly include:

  • Background
  • Objective
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusion

No citations, tables, figures, or unexplained abbreviations should appear in the abstract.

Keywords

Provide three to five keywords arranged alphabetically. Keywords should accurately represent the content of the manuscript and avoid repeating words already used in the title whenever possible.

Introduction

The Introduction should explain the research background, research gap, problem statement, objectives, significance of the study, and relevant literature. It should demonstrate the novelty and contribution of the research while positioning the study within current scholarly discussions.

Methods

The Methods section should clearly describe the research design, participants or research objects, data collection procedures, research instruments (where applicable), ethical considerations (if required), and data analysis techniques. The description should be sufficiently detailed to enable the study to be replicated.

Results

Present the research findings clearly and systematically. Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively, cited in the text, and accompanied by informative captions. Results should present factual findings without interpretation.

Discussion

The Discussion should interpret the findings, compare them with previous studies, explain their theoretical and practical implications, and demonstrate the contribution of the research to the development of knowledge. Authors are encouraged to explain similarities, differences, limitations, and possible directions for future research.

Conclusion

The Conclusion should directly address the research objectives and summarize the main findings without repeating the discussion. Authors are encouraged to include recommendations for future research and practical implications where appropriate.

Acknowledgements

Authors may acknowledge individuals, institutions, or organizations that contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship. Funding sources should also be acknowledged in this section when applicable.

Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest that may influence the research. If no conflict exists, authors should state:

"The authors declare no conflict of interest."

References

References should include only works cited in the manuscript. Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote.

References should meet the following requirements:

  • At least 80% of the references should come from scholarly journals published within the last five years.
  • References should primarily consist of peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, and reputable scholarly sources.
  • All references and in-text citations must follow the APA (American Psychological Association) 7th Edition citation style.
