Types of Manuscript
PIETAS: Jurnal Studi Agama dan Lintas Budaya (Journal of Religious and Cross-Cultural Studies) accepts several types of scholarly manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of research and critical discussions in religious studies and cross-cultural studies.
Submitted manuscripts must demonstrate originality, academic rigor, clear scholarly contribution, and relevance to the journal's aims and scope.
1. Original Research Articles
Original Research Articles present findings from empirical, theoretical, historical, textual, qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-method research that provides significant contributions to religious and cross-cultural scholarship.
These articles should demonstrate a clear research problem, appropriate theoretical framework, rigorous methodology, critical analysis, and meaningful contribution to existing academic discussions.
Research Articles generally include, but are not limited to:
- Religious practices, beliefs, and traditions;
- Religion and society;
- Religion and culture;
- Interreligious relations and dialogue;
- Religious identity and social transformation;
- Religion, politics, ethics, and public life;
- Indigenous religions and local wisdom; and
- Contemporary issues in religion and cross-cultural studies.
2. Systematic Literature Review Articles
Systematic Literature Review Articles provide comprehensive and critical analyses of existing scholarly literature using transparent and systematic review procedures.
These articles should identify research trends, theoretical developments, methodological approaches, knowledge gaps, and future directions within religious and cross-cultural studies.
Authors are encouraged to clearly describe literature search strategies, selection criteria, analytical procedures, and synthesis methods.
3. Conceptual and Theoretical Articles
Conceptual and Theoretical Articles develop critical arguments, theoretical perspectives, conceptual frameworks, or new interpretations that contribute to the advancement of religious and cultural scholarship.
Such manuscripts should demonstrate strong engagement with relevant theories, philosophical perspectives, theological discussions, or interdisciplinary approaches.
4. Review Articles and Critical Book Reviews
Review Articles and Critical Book Reviews provide critical evaluations of significant scholarly works, academic debates, theoretical developments, or recently published books relevant to religion, culture, and society.
Critical reviews should go beyond description by providing analytical assessment, scholarly context, theoretical engagement, and contribution to ongoing academic discussions.
5. Research Notes and Scholarly Perspectives
Research Notes and Scholarly Perspectives present concise scholarly discussions, emerging research findings, methodological reflections, field observations, or critical perspectives on important issues related to religion and cross-cultural studies.
These manuscripts should provide clear academic arguments and demonstrate relevance to current scholarly conversations.
Manuscript Length
The recommended length of manuscripts is as follows:
- Original Research Articles: 6,000–8,000 words, including references.
- Systematic Literature Review Articles: 6,000–8,000 words, including references.
- Conceptual and Theoretical Articles: 5,000–8,000 words, including references.
- Review Articles and Critical Book Reviews: 3,000–5,000 words, including references.
- Research Notes and Scholarly Perspectives: 2,500–4,000 words, including references.
Editorial Consideration
The Editorial Board reserves the right to determine the appropriate classification of submitted manuscripts based on their content, structure, scholarly contribution, and relevance to PIETAS aims and scope.
