Data Availability Policy

PIETAS: Jurnal Studi Agama dan Lintas Budaya (Journal of Religious and Cross-Cultural Studies) recognizes the importance of transparency, research integrity, and responsible data management in scholarly communication.

The journal encourages authors to provide sufficient information regarding research data, materials, sources, and analytical procedures to support transparency, verification, and future scholarly development, where ethically, legally, and culturally appropriate.

Data Availability Statement

Authors are encouraged to include a Data Availability Statement in their manuscripts, particularly for research involving empirical data, surveys, interviews, fieldwork, digital materials, or other research resources.

The statement should describe:

• Whether the research data are publicly available;
• Where and how the data can be accessed;
• Any restrictions on data access due to ethical, legal, privacy, cultural, or community considerations; and
• Conditions under which data may be requested or accessed where applicable.

Open Data and Data Sharing

PIETAS supports responsible data sharing practices that enhance research transparency and reproducibility while respecting ethical obligations, participant privacy, intellectual property rights, and cultural sensitivities.

Authors may share research data through appropriate repositories, institutional archives, or other trusted platforms when such sharing is ethically and legally permissible.

Restrictions on Data Availability

PIETAS recognizes that some research data cannot be made publicly available due to ethical, legal, cultural, religious, or confidentiality considerations.

Restrictions may apply to research involving:

• Personal or identifiable participant information;
• Confidential interviews or testimonies;
• Religious communities, minority groups, or vulnerable populations;
• Sacred, restricted, or culturally sensitive knowledge;
• Private archival materials; and
• Information protected by legal or institutional requirements.

In such cases, authors should explain the reason for restricted access in the Data Availability Statement.

Examples of Data Availability Statements

Authors may use one of the following statements where appropriate:

Data available:

"The data supporting the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request."

Data publicly available:

"The data supporting the findings of this study are openly available at [repository name/link]."

Data restricted:

"The data supporting this study are not publicly available due to ethical, privacy, cultural, or confidentiality restrictions."

Authors' Responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring that research data are accurately represented, properly documented, ethically collected, and managed according to applicable research standards.

Authors must not fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or misrepresent research data, sources, evidence, or materials.

Editorial Consideration

The Editorial Team may request additional information regarding data sources, research materials, or analytical procedures when necessary to evaluate manuscript integrity and compliance with research ethics.

Decisions regarding data accessibility are considered within the context of research ethics, disciplinary practices, legal requirements, and the protection of participants and communities.
