Correction and Retraction Policy
PIETAS: Jurnal Studi Agama dan Lintas Budaya (Journal of Religious and Cross-Cultural Studies) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal follows transparent procedures for correcting, retracting, or addressing concerns regarding published articles in accordance with internationally recognized publication ethics principles, including guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Corrections to Published Articles
PIETAS may publish corrections when errors are identified in a published article that affect the accuracy, clarity, or interpretation of the work but do not invalidate the overall findings or scholarly contribution.
Corrections may include, but are not limited to:
- Errors in author information, institutional affiliation, or publication metadata;
- Minor errors in text, tables, figures, or supplementary materials;
- Incorrect references or citation information;
- Errors that require clarification without affecting the validity of the research conclusions.
Corrections will be published as a separate notice linked to the original article. The original article will remain available, with appropriate indication that a correction has been issued.
Expression of Concern
PIETAS may publish an Expression of Concern when serious questions arise regarding the reliability, integrity, or ethical compliance of a published article, but the available evidence is insufficient to immediately justify retraction.
An Expression of Concern may be issued while the Editorial Team conducts further investigation or awaits clarification from authors, institutions, reviewers, or other relevant parties.
The notice will remain permanently linked to the original article to ensure transparency for readers.
Retraction of Published Articles
PIETAS may retract a published article when evidence demonstrates that the article contains serious problems that compromise the reliability or integrity of the scholarly record.
Reasons for retraction may include, but are not limited to:
- Fabrication or falsification of data, evidence, sources, or research findings;
- Plagiarism or serious misuse of intellectual contributions;
- Duplicate or redundant publication;
- Major authorship violations;
- Serious ethical violations involving research participants or communities;
- Misrepresentation or manipulation of religious, cultural, historical, or ethnographic information;
- Serious undisclosed conflicts of interest that affect the validity of the publication;
- Manipulation of peer-review or publication processes.
Retraction Process
Before retracting an article, PIETAS will conduct an appropriate investigation based on available evidence and ethical procedures.
The Editorial Team may:
- Review the reported concerns and supporting evidence;
- Request clarification from authors or relevant parties;
- Consult independent experts or members of the Editorial Board when necessary;
- Communicate with affiliated institutions or relevant organizations where appropriate.
Retraction decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief based on evidence, ethical considerations, and the need to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.
Publication of Retraction Notices
Retracted articles will remain accessible in the journal archive to preserve the transparency and history of the scholarly record.
The article will be clearly marked as "Retracted", and a separate retraction notice will be published explaining the reason for the retraction.
Retraction notices will include sufficient information to ensure transparency while respecting confidentiality and legal considerations where applicable.
Author Responsibilities
Authors are required to promptly notify the Editorial Office if they discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published articles.
Authors must cooperate with editorial investigations, provide clarification when requested, and support appropriate corrections or retractions when necessary.
Editorial Responsibility
The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board are responsible for ensuring that correction, expression of concern, and retraction procedures are conducted fairly, objectively, transparently, and independently.
