Author Guidelines

Authors intending to submit manuscripts to DEVOTION: Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat must carefully follow the journal's submission requirements. Manuscripts submitted to DEVOTION should demonstrate academic rigor, methodological clarity, originality, ethical compliance, and meaningful contributions to community engagement, empowerment, and sustainable development.

1. Originality and Publication Ethics

  1. Submitted manuscripts must be original works that have not been previously published and are not under consideration by another journal.
  2. Authors must ensure that manuscripts accurately represent the reported community engagement activities, research processes, outcomes, and impacts.
  3. Plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, inappropriate authorship, and other forms of publication misconduct are strictly prohibited.
  4. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for copyrighted materials and ensuring ethical compliance regarding photographs, participant information, and community data.

2. Language and Writing Quality

  1. Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian or English using clear, precise, and academic language.
  2. English manuscripts must meet appropriate academic writing standards and should be carefully proofread before submission.
  3. Manuscripts written in Indonesian must follow academic writing conventions and applicable language standards.

3. Manuscript Preparation

  1. Manuscripts must follow the official DEVOTION manuscript template available on the journal website.
  2. Authors must comply with formatting requirements, including manuscript structure, citation style, tables, figures, and references.
  3. Manuscripts should generally consist of 10–20 pages, including references and supporting materials.
  4. Manuscripts must provide analytical discussion and evidence of community impact rather than merely describing routine community activities.

4. Manuscript Structure

Submitted manuscripts should generally follow the following structure:

  • Title
  • Authors and Affiliations
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Methods
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgments (optional)
  • References

Title

  • The title should be concise, specific, informative, and accurately reflect the community engagement intervention or contribution.
  • The title should indicate the main focus, target community, innovation, or intervention where appropriate.
  • The title should preferably not exceed 20 words.

Authors and Affiliations

The manuscript must include:

  • Full names of authors without academic titles.
  • Institutional affiliations.
  • ORCID ID (if available).
  • Corresponding author's email address.

Authors must ensure that all listed authors have made significant intellectual or practical contributions to the reported work.

Abstract

  1. The abstract must be provided in Indonesian and English.
  2. The abstract should contain approximately 150–250 words describing:
    • Community background and identified problems.
    • Objectives of the engagement program.
    • Methods and intervention strategies.
    • Main outcomes and evaluation results.
    • Community impact and significance.
  3. The abstract should be followed by 3–5 keywords.

5. Manuscript Content Requirements

Introduction

The introduction should explain the community context, identified problems, relevant literature, knowledge gaps, objectives, and expected contribution of the engagement initiative.

Methods

The methods section should clearly describe:

  • Community characteristics and location.
  • Needs assessment or problem identification process.
  • Intervention design and implementation approach.
  • Stakeholder involvement and participation.
  • Evaluation methods and indicators used to measure outcomes.

Results and Discussion

This section should present:

  • Implementation results and achievements.
  • Evidence-based outcomes and community impact.
  • Changes resulting from the intervention.
  • Discussion in relation to relevant theories or previous studies.
  • Challenges, limitations, sustainability, and future development opportunities.

Conclusion

The conclusion should summarize the main contributions, practical implications, lessons learned, sustainability potential, and recommendations for future community engagement activities.

6. Ethical Requirements for Community Engagement

  • Authors must respect participant rights, dignity, privacy, and cultural considerations.
  • Appropriate informed consent must be obtained when activities involve identifiable individuals, photographs, videos, or personal information.
  • Ethical approval should be obtained when required by institutional or regulatory standards.

7. Tables, Figures, and Supporting Materials

  1. Tables and figures must be numbered sequentially and include clear titles and captions.
  2. Visual materials must accurately represent the reported activities and comply with ethical requirements.
  3. Authors are responsible for ensuring permission and proper attribution for third-party materials.

8. References and Citation Style

  1. References should consist primarily of relevant and high-quality scholarly publications.
  2. Authors are encouraged to use recent scientific references, particularly publications from the last five years.
  3. Authors are encouraged to prioritize peer-reviewed journal articles.
  4. All references must follow the APA 7th Edition style.
  5. Reference management tools such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote are recommended.

9. Funding Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose funding sources, institutional support, partnerships, and any potential conflicts of interest related to the submitted manuscript.

10. Similarity Screening

All submitted manuscripts will undergo similarity screening using appropriate plagiarism detection tools. The Editorial Team will evaluate similarity reports by considering the context, citation practices, and originality of the manuscript.

11. Editorial Screening and Peer Review

All manuscripts undergo initial editorial screening to evaluate:

  • Alignment with DEVOTION's aims and scope.
  • Originality and scholarly contribution.
  • Methodological appropriateness.
  • Ethical compliance.
  • Quality of reporting and evidence of impact.

Manuscripts that meet editorial requirements will proceed to the double-blind peer-review process.

Editorial Decision

The Editorial Board reserves the right to accept, request revisions, or reject manuscripts based on editorial evaluation and peer-review recommendations. Submission of a manuscript does not guarantee acceptance or publication.
