AI Policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Educatum: Jurnal Dunia Pendidikan recognizes the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted technologies in education, research, academic writing, and scholarly publishing.

Educatum permits the responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies when they support, rather than replace, human intellectual contribution, scholarly judgment, ethical responsibility, and accountability.

This policy applies to authors, reviewers, editors, and other parties involved in the publication process. The purpose of this policy is to promote transparency, originality, confidentiality, research integrity, privacy protection, and responsible use of artificial intelligence in scholarly communication.

AI Use by Authors

Authors may use generative AI or AI-assisted technologies to support manuscript preparation, including language improvement, grammar correction, translation, readability enhancement, organization, or other appropriate writing assistance.

However, AI-generated content must not replace the authors' own scholarly analysis, interpretation, critical reasoning, theoretical development, research contribution, or intellectual responsibility.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, reliability, and ethical compliance of all content submitted to Educatum: Jurnal Dunia Pendidikan.

Generative AI tools or AI-assisted systems must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship requires substantial intellectual contribution, accountability, approval of the final manuscript, and responsibility for the published work.

Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose the substantive use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies when such tools are used in preparing, developing, analyzing, interpreting, or substantially revising a manuscript.

The disclosure should include:

  • the name of the AI tool or service used;
  • the purpose of its use; and
  • the extent of human review, verification, and modification.

When applicable, the disclosure may be included before the References section under the heading:

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

Example:

During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [name of AI tool/service] for [purpose]. The author(s) subsequently reviewed, verified, and edited the generated content and take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the final manuscript.

The use of basic digital tools for spelling correction, grammar checking, punctuation, formatting, or reference management does not normally require disclosure.

AI as Part of Research Methods

When artificial intelligence, machine learning, intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning technologies, automated assessment systems, learning analytics, or other AI-based technologies are used as part of the research methodology or object of study, authors must describe their use transparently in the Methods section.

Authors should report relevant information, including:

  • the name and version of the AI tool, model, or system;
  • its role and purpose in the research;
  • the type of data or input used;
  • implementation, prompting, training, or analytical procedures where relevant;
  • validation and evaluation procedures;
  • human supervision and verification processes;
  • potential limitations and biases; and
  • ethical, privacy, and data protection considerations.

Accuracy and Verification

Authors must independently verify all AI-assisted content before submission.

Because AI systems may generate inaccurate, incomplete, biased, misleading, or fabricated information, authors are responsible for verifying:

  • factual statements;
  • statistical information;
  • references and citations;
  • quotations;
  • interpretations;
  • research instruments;
  • educational theories or concepts; and
  • conclusions derived from AI-assisted processes.

AI-generated references must not be included unless authors have independently verified the existence and relevance of the original sources.

AI and Research Integrity

The use of AI to fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or misrepresent research evidence is strictly prohibited.

Prohibited practices include, but are not limited to:

  • fabricating research participants or respondents;
  • creating fictitious interview quotations;
  • fabricating or falsifying educational data;
  • generating nonexistent references;
  • manipulating research findings;
  • presenting AI-generated information as authentic research evidence;
  • creating false research documentation; and
  • using AI to conceal plagiarism or publication misconduct.

AI-Generated Images, Figures, and Multimedia

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI when creating or substantially modifying figures, images, illustrations, audio, video, or other multimedia materials included in manuscripts.

AI-generated or AI-modified materials must not be presented as authentic research documentation when they do not represent actual participants, institutions, events, or research conditions.

Privacy and Educational Data Protection

Authors must exercise caution when using AI systems involving educational data.

Confidential or personally identifiable information relating to students, children, teachers, parents, school personnel, persons with disabilities, or research participants must not be uploaded to public AI systems without appropriate authorization, ethical approval, informed consent, and data protection safeguards.

AI Use by Reviewers

Submitted manuscripts are confidential documents. Reviewers must not upload unpublished manuscripts, supplementary materials, research data, reviewer reports, or confidential information into external AI systems where confidentiality, intellectual property protection, or data security cannot be assured.

AI tools must not replace reviewers' independent scholarly judgment. Reviewers remain responsible for their evaluations, recommendations, and review comments.

AI Use by Editors

Editors must protect the confidentiality and intellectual property of submitted manuscripts.

Unpublished manuscripts, reviewer reports, author information, research data, or confidential editorial materials must not be uploaded to external AI systems where confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.

Editorial decisions must remain the responsibility of qualified human editors and must be based on scholarly merit, peer-review outcomes, ethical compliance, and journal policies.

Violations of AI Policy

Failure to disclose significant AI use, fabrication of AI-generated information, misuse of confidential data, misrepresentation of AI-generated materials, or other inappropriate uses of artificial intelligence may result in editorial action.

Depending on the severity of the violation, Educatum may:

  • request clarification or revision;
  • reject the manuscript;
  • issue a correction;
  • publish an expression of concern;
  • retract a published article; or
  • take other actions in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics.

Policy Updates

Artificial intelligence technologies and scholarly publishing practices continue to evolve. Educatum: Jurnal Dunia Pendidikan may periodically review and update this policy to reflect developments in technology, educational research, publication ethics, privacy protection, and responsible scholarly communication.
