Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Jurnal Ilmiah Multidisiplin (JUILMU) recognizes the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted technologies in research and scholarly publishing. JUILMU permits the responsible use of such technologies when they support, rather than replace, human intellectual contribution, academic judgment, and accountability.

This policy applies to authors, reviewers, and editors and is intended to promote transparency, research integrity, confidentiality, and responsible use of AI throughout the publication process.

AI Use by Authors

Authors may use generative AI or AI-assisted technologies to support manuscript preparation, including language improvement, readability, organization, or other appropriate writing assistance. However, AI-generated output must not replace the authors' own scholarly analysis, interpretation, critical reasoning, or intellectual contribution.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and reliability of all content submitted to JUILMU. Authors must carefully review and verify AI-assisted content, including factual statements, references, quotations, data, interpretations, and conclusions.

AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors, as authorship requires responsibilities and accountability that can only be assumed by human contributors.

Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies when such tools have been used substantively in preparing, developing, analyzing, or revising the manuscript.

The disclosure should identify:

• the name of the AI tool or service used;

• the purpose for which it was used; and

• the extent of human review and oversight.

A disclosure statement may be included in a separate section before the References under the heading:

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

Example:

During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [name of AI tool/service] for [purpose]. The author(s) subsequently reviewed, verified, and edited the generated content and take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the final manuscript.

The use of basic tools solely for spelling, grammar, punctuation, or conventional reference management does not normally require disclosure.

AI Use in Research Methods

When artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, or other AI-based technologies form part of the research methodology, authors must describe their use transparently in the Methods section.

Where relevant, authors should report the name and version of the tool or model, its purpose, input or data used, analytical procedures, validation procedures, and the role of human oversight to enable appropriate evaluation and reproducibility of the research.

Accuracy, References, and Research Integrity

Authors must not rely on AI-generated information without verification. AI systems may produce inaccurate, incomplete, biased, or fabricated information, including incorrect or nonexistent references.

Authors are responsible for verifying all citations and references against the original scholarly sources. AI-generated references must not be included unless the underlying sources have been independently verified by the authors.

The use of AI to fabricate, manipulate, falsify, or misrepresent research data, results, images, citations, participants' statements, or other scholarly evidence is strictly prohibited and will be treated as a violation of JUILMU's Publication Ethics.

AI-Generated Images and Other Content

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI when it has been used to create or substantially modify figures, images, illustrations, audio, video, or other content included in a manuscript.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that such materials are scientifically accurate, ethically appropriate, and do not violate copyright, intellectual property, privacy, confidentiality, or other applicable rights.

When AI-assisted content is included in a figure or illustration, the use of the AI tool should be transparently described in the figure caption or another appropriate section of the manuscript.

Confidentiality and AI Use by Reviewers

Submitted manuscripts are confidential documents. Reviewers must not upload unpublished manuscripts, manuscript excerpts, supplementary files, author information, review materials, or other confidential content into public or external generative AI systems where confidentiality, data retention, or intellectual property protection cannot be assured.

Reviewers remain personally responsible for the scientific assessment, critical evaluation, recommendations, and comments contained in their review reports. AI tools must not replace the reviewer's independent academic judgment.

If an approved AI-assisted tool is used solely to support language or organization of a review report without compromising manuscript confidentiality, such use should be disclosed when appropriate.

AI Use by Editors

Editors must protect the confidentiality and intellectual property of submitted manuscripts. Unpublished manuscripts or confidential editorial materials must not be uploaded to public generative AI systems for evaluation, summarization, decision-making, or other editorial purposes.

Editorial decisions must be made by qualified human editors based on the manuscript's scholarly merit, peer-review reports, journal policies, and publication ethics. AI systems must not independently determine whether a manuscript is accepted or rejected.

Violations of the AI Policy

Failure to disclose significant AI use, fabrication of AI-generated information, submission of unverifiable references, unauthorized use of confidential materials, or other misuse of AI may result in editorial action.

Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, JUILMU may require manuscript revision, reject the submission, issue a correction or retraction after publication, or take other appropriate action in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics and related policies.

Policy Updates

Artificial intelligence technologies and scholarly publishing practices continue to evolve rapidly. JUILMU may periodically review and update this policy to reflect developments in technology, research integrity standards, and internationally recognized scholarly publishing practices.
